Geoff photographing red deer

Geoff Simpson

Born and brought up in one of Britain's most outstanding regions of natural beauty Northumberland. His creations are way beyond documentary images but capture emotionally and artistically the essence of his subject. Today, Geoff resides in the Peak District National Park, Derbyshire with magnificent views of Dark Peak massif, Kinder Scout from his office. An outstanding field naturalist, Geoff is driven by expressing the beauty and intricacy of Britain's wildlife, wild nature and wild places that inspire him and he so cares about.

He brings to his work a strong personal vision combined with supreme technical mastery of his chosen medium. Shooting predominantly at dawn and dusk, he is able to capture those rare moments when composition, fine light and colour combine to create a remarkable image. His work concentrates on portraying the rhythms of the natural world and man's influence upon our fragile environment. As a testament to the quality of Geoff's work he has recently been described in both Photography Monthly and Practical Photography magazines as one of Britain's finest wildlife photographers.

artist's statement

With my work I hope to promote awareness, dignity and respect. Trying to convey my own empathetic feeling of awe over the wonders and the beauty and expressions of the natural world. I try to capture when ever possible the essence of Britain's unique wildlife, wild nature, wild places and culture. If people have been moved by something, they inevitably want to know more about it; there is something to keep and cherish. Environmental thinking is not only about ideas, but also about spirit, feeling and action.
